Deep - just because we nicked Adolf's car , imagine if we had burgled his house

Oh we did that too ;)

  2. They could have stopped Adolf before it he had a chance to get tooled up etc but that will be one of the mistakes of history wont it? Nobody is dissing American soldiers on this thread at all , we went a bit off topic here didn't we.
A soldier is a very proud and honorable profession even today, no matter what uniform they wear. We must NEVER EVER forget the lives that were lost on all sides be they military or civilian and the effect these sacrifices made on the families of these , even today. Sorry I am going off topic here , but going back on topic a lot of great inventions have been created in this country and still are today but we do not market it very well.

    :)

  3. If i implied dissing yanks, it wasnt intentional. Just that we only have ourselves to blame for our debt and our failure to remove Adolph earlier.

I still reckon the best car ever made was the E type. No returns. :p

  11. Not wishing to mention the war (more than once anyway) I wonder how things might have turned out if certain events hadn't occurred.

Firstly, if Britain hadn't held out against Germany, Germany wouldn't have had a Western front to contend with and would have defeated Russia. Germany would have taken over Europe and Russia and with such combined technological advantage would have become the world's superpower, and could well have defeated North America within a few years.

Secondly, if the US hadn't helped Britain and Russia to defeat Germany, the Russians would have taken over Europe, and again, with such combined technological advantage would have become the world's superpower, and could well have defeated North America within a few years.

I think perhaps there might have been more in the minds of the US than profiteering and the dismantlement of the British Empire, I think there was also a real fear of an uncertain future.

However, ultimately it was the common man and woman that paid the price for it all, on all sides of the conflict.

And by the way, Frank Whittle invented the turbojet engine 10 years before the He178 flew.

    True, in 1928 I believe.
However, the Germans were the first to actually have jets flying & the Me 262 was the first operational jet fighter/bomber. The British weren't far behind & did have the Gloster Meteor operational before the end of the war.

  13. The Americans were too busy helping Japan get back on its feet after flattening it,

  14. But again wasn't the RAF reluctant to try this 'new jet technology' as they did not see its advantage! They were happy with Spitfires etc .What a bunch of arrogant muppets? Bit like the 'oh those Japanese motorbikes?' They are just rubbish not as good as our Triumphs, BSA's etc etc and look what happend!'

i don't think a bowl of hot water and waterwheel constitutes a win in the jet aerospace industry really, i could be wrong ? o_O

  17. I never said it did. All I stated was that the Greeks discovered jet propulsion years ago. They would have developed it too but no one had invented air ports so they just went back to smashing plates, wandering around in Togas and contemplating whether or not it was necessary to full the bath right up.

  18. Thats only because they ate too many oilives and of course days on end being bored eventually one of them was bound to discover jet propulsion! :)
