Testing the water re:seats

  1. Thinking about a Berlin on offer that has non westy seats and wondered how rare the original seats are to get and what kind of price they tend to go for ?

  2. a pair went for £125 on ebay the other day but that is cheap i think. More like £200 usually when they come up.

  3. Decided against the van with non standard seats but most Westys I see with original seats, have tears on the drivers side (I guess from getting in/out the cab). In your experience, is it cheaper to buy ready made covers and foam and DIY, or to buy the replacement material and have them recovered ? Assuming I am OK at DIY stuff, is it easy/difficult to recover ?

  4. your talking 35-40 year old vans , they ain`t going to be perfect unless your spending 30k . I would more think about the mechanical condition as a pair of seats is nothing to sort

  5. As reply above.

Seats are horsehair backing is early or mid, foam on very late.

fitting covers is easy, cab seat covers are £100-150+ depending on where you go. Trimming the rest of the interior can be simpler but also very expensive depending on your taste and ability

Worry about body first, interior, wheels and even engine are less than buying a rotten body and gettign it restored. There are nice vans out there.

    What they said ^^^
Seats should be fairly low on your list of things to check when buying a van....

  7. Cheers everyone. You're right in regards to the priorities but I was trying to get a feel for what costs might be involved to sort out the interior of a van. It helps me know how much to expect to have spend etc after the major investment of the bus itself. Anyhow your comments are welcomed and very helpful. Cheers.
