Hi all Looking to find what part goes here (in red) on the rear door mechanism, as it came with a small piece of ply screwed on which is obviously a bodge, and has never opened properly but can't find any parts diagrams or obvious parts on justkampers/Schofield etc etc to find the part. Also, is there any parts missing that also means I can open from inside? I can open, but only by fiddling with the mechanism which isn't very easy. Basically, I've always thought I'm missing something here, but always been so low priority never really bothered to fix, but hey, on it now!
It’s more likely the push button that’s the problem, it’s has the extra added to meet the push button, got a picture of that and the bit that touches the circled bit ?
See below. I don't quite see how you could attach anything on this bit, which is the rear of the lock/button. The receiver on the latch side in the original photo at least has 2 holes which I assume are for bolts/screws! Obviously, something missing on one side or the other.
From memory...nothing’s missing. Mine’s the same. You could attach something to the lever to open it from inside (which would cause the tailgate to spring open).
Hmm, I'll check again but without the bit of ply / block or suchlike between them the lock/button doesn't move the mechanism enough to open it from the outside. That what makes me think there should be something there and why I've left the bit of ply on till now. I can always put it back but just looking for a proper piece if such a thing exists.
Yep, have something like that already, just seeing if there is something off the shelf that does the job.
I seem to remember somewhere in the distant past(we're talking years ago) there was a thread on here about how to put an internal release on the rear hatch. Have a look in the How To section in Mech Tech.
Grand, thanks, that's really useful. Plus it has decent photo of mechanism. Clearly mine isn't operating correctly as they don't touch without a block. I'll have to investigate.
There's also a thread on fitting a latch handle (not just a piece of string) on VWKD in the modifications section. http://vwkd.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4024
