Done a bit of searching and it seems these are difficult to get hold of, unless it's a potentially dodgy used one. Ive had an idea of making a flat one out of Lexan(poly carbonate). Do you think this would be a feasable idea? it looks doable in theory?
Made the prototype today. All seems fine just worried it might have a negative effect on engine temps. Anyone with a temp gauge fancy being the guinea pig!
i can't see it affecting the temps too bad there's plenty of holes, coloured ones next with led's yayyyyyy
you have to wonder why they are domed though and not flat there must be a reason as flat would be easier to make.
Looks much better than my standard one. 8) If it don't work..........few marbles...........Travel Solitaire.
I havnt got one on mine. Been like it for the last 10 years. Theres not space to fit it, the rear vanlence is gnats cock tight next to the engine. If it's flat it will fit for me.
Think about it - a dome has more surface area than a flat, so despite having plastic mesh, the sum total area of all the holes on the dome shape vw one is bigger that the inlet hole for the fan. Your flat one will restrict the air getting in and cook your engine. The thickness and shape will cause turbulance and further restrict the air flow. For that reason I'm out. And the other one - out again. More out. No chance. Where's an engineer when you need one? :
