Because you gave it to a garage you have no idea what was messed with at the same time as they changed the starter motor, which is an extremely simple job but - the knocked off hose corresponds with somebody reaching round to get at the nut behind the fan housing that holds the top of the starter motor.... And THEY DIDNT NOTICE they knocked it off.. not such a careful garage ....
The other fixing is a bolt below the motor. And you have to disconnect the battery before undoing the wiring on the back of the starter.

It really is one of the simpler things to fix on a bus. .

If the engine is running smoothly but lacking in top speed, my money would be on the accelerator cable being very loose , followed by some body knocking the timing off on the distributor in their struggles in the engine bay.

If the engine is running roughly then it is likely to be an ignition lead that has been knocked off. Try pushing the leads back on to the spark plugs on the right hand side where the grease monkey probably flailed around with the spanner.

How far away from Lutterworth are you?
If you have the weekend free and it’s not too far for you to travel I’d strongly recommend going , there will be a lot of knowledge there and as long as it’s before lunch on the Saturday :burp:
You’ll get plenty of advice and help get it running as sweet as a nut

It’s usually twice a year , April and September , obviously this April didn’t happen . I reckon you’ll do well to try and make it

  8. Thanks everyone for the comments - I know I need to learn how to maintain it myself and I hope to do that, at the moment the manual might as well be in another language but if I can make techenders I will see you there!

There is a guy at the local garage who is really in to them and he did a great job getting her back to former glory after a pretty bad near-insurance write off crash last year. Its in his capable hands today so fingers crossed :)

  9. Don't forget to get a detailed report on what he finds as we all want to know:)

  10. Small update - as soon as he turned it on he could hear it was missfiring...that gives you an indication of how little I know!

Think he is going to change out the plugs and go from there. Fingers crossed I am on the road to Dorset this time tomorrow :)

  12. Misfiring definitely sounds like timing, sounds like the the dizzy has rotated out of sync

  13. Hopefully you’ve found the problem already, was gonna just say to take it for another spin round the block maybee even dual carageway to get it up to speed then stop and check if wheels are getting over hot maybee one hotter than the rest,Could be a sticky brake somewhere!I had this on a csp disk kit on my old Mk1 prototype, sliding pin was corroded but only sticks when been driving for20 mins or so! Maybee jack it up n spin wheels first to double check.
