  1. Hi went to start up my winnie the T2 nothing, only recently taken over as her new owner and learning as I go along is there any tips on removing the battery as I think it’s a replacement job and won’t get away with a jump start
    Thanks

  2. If parked uo between trips its advisable to keep a charger on, i have mine on trickle charge on a simple plug in timer. 1hr a day just keeps the battery fine and has never let down, its not good to leave them to discharge

  3. Hi Tracey, I'd be tempted to get a charger, something like a Ctek MXS 5 (that's what I've got), and leave the battery to charge over night. Many chargers will now also check the battery to see if it really is a goner, before they start charging. If it tells you it's defect, or if it doesn't hold any charge, then you'll probably need a new battery, but it may just need a good charge. If you plan to leave Winnie for any length of time unused, you'll probably need a charger anyway, even with a new battery. That model of charger has a trickle charge function, which can be left on for extended periods, so the battery is ready to go even after a couple of cold months off the road over winter.

  4. Easy enough. Disconnect the battery negative first, then the battery’s disconnected from the van bodywork. Then undo the positive, undo the clamp and heave!

  5. Could be all manner of reasons it won't start, battery could be fine. Jump it or charge the battery, if it then starts fine then maybe look at replacing the battery if necessary.

  6. I always used to get through batteries in a couple of years and suffered from no battery power after it had been sitting around for a while, since I fitted a solar panel on the roof and VSR I've never had a problem.

  7. Fairly straight forward to change your battery -as detailed by @snotty above. I remove mine every year to check that the battery tray is free of rust ( having spent a fortune having a new one welded in.). It can be a bit of struggle to actually get the battery out without tipping it over and spilling acid though. Good idea to take it out to charge it up - and whilst it is out you can rustproof the battery tray.

  8. Have you not got any roadside breakdown cover, they will come out and check the battery for you

Batteries wont leak until they are angled over at well over 30 degrees and left there. The acid wont destroy the universe either, bicarb of soda and a good rinse with water will clear up spills.

If it wont start with a jump start its a very dead battery.

A digital car battery tester is £22 on eBay.
