Get a hull survey... You are right though, there are bargains to be had if you're in the mood for some hard work in a confined space. It took me months to do my camper so I look at the size of a narrowboat and it's a non-starter for me, it would take me years. I would just wait a few months if I were you though. Over the past few years every cheap narrowboat has ended up licenced as a boat without a home mooring in London, moving (or not) every 14 day as per licence terms. CRT have recently ramped up their enforcement, local councils have had enough of engines, genny's, coal and wood smoke etc, they all share about 3 water points, clog up visitor moorings and generally it's thought to be a problem by CRT. There are going to be a lot of these cheap boats coming back Northwards, people are already leaving to avoid enforcement and will find commuting rather spoils the deal. They will give up and flog off their boats any minute now. EA are behaving same on the Thames and a local council has managed to make it a criminal offence to moor to any of their land, a new criminal offence being committed every 24 hours. More boats coming onto the market. Both the above happened in March this year.
I more than happy with a narrow boat . my little boat I have now is good enough for me but I want a bit bigger for my little boy when he stays plus a wide beam is more mooring fees ive got this boating life sorted now ive joined a gym so I can have a good shower everyday and lost three stone
its ok i still fancy ya dont get one toooo long or you cant turn round in some places sounds like you have found something worth going to jim for
im looking at 50 foot that's not to bad / there is one right next to me that nobody has been on since the start of last year that im trying to find out who owns it
I have a row boat with trailer and a dunlop inflatable ,cash either way preferably mine.. Watched the narrowboat thing last night, I can see the appeal ,but would like the option of a camper as well...
