Swing out cooker

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by MadFrankie, Mar 1, 2012.

  1. Right, I'm now considering having a swing out cooker in my '78 tin top. Problem is as it was a microbus it has no bulkhead to screw the hinge onto.

I've never seen one in the flesh to know exactly how it works, but assume its just a hinge. Anyone any ideas as to how I could connect one or able to post some pictures of theirs to help?

  2. Hi bud, if you look in featured rides theirs one on the devon eurovette it shows it. Ive got same but cant do pics at mo. The hinge is not like a standard type hinge its a rectangular box section post with pins that it swivels on and a lift out mech too. As you may be able to see from pics on that thread/post. The little table with one leg is infact the top of cooker when not in use and it does have a slot type bracket which holds it to onto back of bulk head which also stops cooker swinging about whilst driving. If you get one try and get one with the post arrangement and top and bulkhead bracket im sure you could rig it up without bulkhead . Hope this has helped a bit anyway. barn

  3. no bulkhead at all behind the seats?

I had a dormobile cooker that I bolted on the back face of the small bulkhead behind the passenger seat in one of my configurations, that worked rather well, I've still got it kicking aroudn in my garage I think somewhere

the box underneath had an amp and a bass bin in it, the dormy buddy seat fitted into holes drileld in the top of it

the gas bottle sat behind the passenger seat

  4. Cheers guys, Barney, thanks for the picture link, I understand the hinge bit better now...

Techno, no bulkhead at all, just the bit that the seats sit on, here's a pic...

I suppose I could bolt something to that but I'm not sure how strong it would be. I might have to get crafty with some runners and a captains chair style swivel plate...

I looked into fitting a swing out but Westfalia chopped out my bulkhead so I fitted a cooker unit that's now completely removable. Far more practical for me as when I don't need it I can take it out to give me more space.

So I bought a Westfalia continental unit, chopped it up a bit and now have a cooker unit complete with pull out tray and cupboard.

  6. So is that just free standing or does it clip to something while the bus is moving?

  7. Stu's unit is a really good idea as it means he can do out door cooking :)

  11. Humm, that's got me thinking. That's some good work mini b

  12. took apicture of my devon. this is how it normally is when driving to stop it moving. move the black knob down to engage the spigot on the cooker to swing it out for cooking outside, or just lift it out as is to cook in the awning.
