Swarfega

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by andyv, Oct 18, 2018.

  1. Why has it got so expensive and what are the alternatives?

There was a 1 litre jar in Lidl for £7.99, but mostly the likes of Halfords charge £2.50 for a little 250 ml tub.

I used to use Vim and Fairy liquid, but Swarfega is the man.

  2. We used to have massive tubs in engineering workshop , you had to clean your hands with it .

  3. fairy liquid and some waswhing powder

The smaller the quantities the more expensive it usually is, just buy 5litres from Halfords for £14 , it doesn’t go out of date

Plus a barrier cream before if I remember to use it.

A friend of mine is an engineer. I’m a teacher. We joke that you can tell when we’re on our holidays...his hands are clean and mine are filthy!

I had some swarfega wipes in a tub a while back. I think they were good but it’s so long ago I can hardly remember....
....I did like the smell of them though :D

  9. Must try them. We use the Andrex aloe vera ones.

A big scrubbing brush and loads of Sainsburys cheap handwash.

I got a big tub of lemom smelling stuff from GSF but it has those evil plastic beads in it that go straight out to sea...

  16. What's the difference between a Technician and an Engineer, An Engineers wash their hands after they urinate.:) I remember getting almost armpit deep into a 200 litre drum of swarfega in college, I couldn't help myself.......

As mentioned above adding a little helps .
If out in garden I add a little sand to a small dab of swarfega and it's very effective.
In the house add either salt or sugar . .

What use are the thin plastic gloves you get . First off all even extra large don't fit so when I do get some on they last as long as it takes to pick a tool up then there full of holes
Now there a waste of money

  18. It's that squishy feeling

  19. Is it that a Technician uses correct grammar?
    or
They don't pee on their hands in the first place?

  20. I thought they’d changed swarfega & it had less grit in it these days, the last lot I bought was disappointing. I use manista now which I’d recommend, it does smell a bit of lemon though so it may be the dodgy plastic stuff that @mikedjames was talking about...
