Surface rust advice please

  1. Hi all
    Advice please on the plan of attack for treating the rust on the underside of the van.... I'm guessing wire brushing / dremmel tool then some rust treatment but what s best .. Advice please

  2. dremel will take forever.....wire cup wheel will be too aggressive if it's just powdery surface stuff. Hand brush would get rid of blistery patches....then you'd need to treat it with Jenolite or simliar to stabilize it...(wear goggles!)

    Unless you really go to town on it, the best you can do is 'manage' it by stabilizing/sealing with zinc rich paint/epoxy)

  3. That looks a tad more than surface rust to me. Is that plain untreated metal?

    Looks to me like that's all been stripped of whatever protective coatings it had and whatever it's now been in contact with is highly corrosive

  5. Don't worry about @Joker's doom mongering, he's not used to the sight of rust, he drives imports;). It always look worse in photos, get as much as you can off with an angle grinder and cup brush and hand held wire brush, then use some kurust or similar, then a rust inhibiting paint like bonda or that epoxy stuff.
