My 72 bus is stuck in 2nd gear. I am on holiday in northern Spain with 7days Mrs and2kids So help gratefull. The clutch works disengaging 2nd gear. I can't get it out of 2nd gear when engine is stopped or running with or without the clutch. Gear selector linkage is good all the way back to the gearbox. Do the selector lever shafts fail in the gearbox. I am going to try splitting the gear linkage tomorrow to see if gearbox is stuck. Gearboxes are eyond me. I was driving it up a hill then stopped and found it stuck in 2nd.Thanks
Does the gear leaver move around freely or is it stuck in position for 2nd gear? Zed will prob know better but the selector pin that comes from inside the nose cone of the box (that you hook the linkage up to) can wear and then slip out of alinment with the (3?) hooked selector forks it works. If it has i would pull the box to remove the nose cone and put it back in. There fiddly but not difficult to put back.
The gear stick is stuck not floppy. Could I take the nose cone off without taking The gearbox out. I can drive at 20mph so probably leave as is as campsite not best place.
Sorry can't help, but I would have another good look at the linkage, then the lock-out plate under the stick (which could have split and jammed the stick) before taking the gearbox to pieces...
Thanks for the help. Took front gear stick selector off and nothing broke bent, put socket set extension arm in it and its solid no movement. Guess gearbox is the problem. Did manage to do 30 miles with a bit coasting, 90 to the boat and loads days, just got to not get in a up hill queue.
