I've managed to get one of the rear hub nuts off but the other refuses to move. To the extend that it bent my bar! Any bright ideas? I've left it soaking in plus gas and will get some heat on it next time I'm down there.

Length of scaffold pipe on your breaker bar to give you more leverage?

And nearly forgot to add, "Have you tried hitting it with a hammer?"

May give that a go. Might need 3/4inch though as the 1/2 was starting to bend!

  4. Half inch is useless. 3/4" three foot breaker bar, poss with a length of scaffold on, handbrake firmly on, and heave. It'll come undone.

Yeah thought as much. Will see if my workshop share guy has any as 3/4 socket sets don't look cheap!

  6. Weeeel - you only have to buy one. Halfords will sell you a 3/4" socket (forget the size). Meant for air guns, but do the job.

Workshop share guy has said he'll bring along a 3/4 set next week and crack them off for me! Result.

  9. Same as above.. I was using a huge socket and a huge bar with huge pole.. Nothing, stuck a big adjustable on and smacked it once with a *****ing massive lump hammer... Straight off...

  10. I was jumping up and down on the scaffy pole and the van just rocked back and forth on the drive, I swear I could here a little voice saying "Stoopid Tommy Inglander, iz zat ze best you can do? hahaha"
So I eventually sold it. Who's laughing now?

Anyway, I've just found an ebay link for you.

  12. I'd be suspicious of anyone offering to come round and "crack one off" for me...

I'll let him have a go of it this week and if he can't do it I'll give that a go! Other side wasn't so bad coming off so can only assume it wasn't done up tight enough.
I'm also assuming that the left-hand side nut has a normal thread (i.e counter-clockwise to get it off)? All the bits I'd read didn't mention other wise.

Took a age to get mine off.

Took it to a HGV garage to have the bearings looked at some time later and the lad 'built like a brick out house' got a 2 ft wrench bar on it and zipped it off like a shot without breaking a sweat. He did say it was a little tight. Jeeez, I had been jumping up down on a scaffold pole and straining my cobs undoing the same nut a week before.

I have a friend like that, the benifits of being 25st+ are few, but he's good at pressing on breaker bars. :)

Yeah I don't have weight on my side. Think it looked quite dodgy with me and the wife both on the bar though!
