saving to get my bus lowered 4" by t2d i have a set of brand new john brown (empi 5 style) wheels but they need rubbers , now do i spend a few hundred £s on tyre and the £580 to lower it, or do i keep the stock wheels and just put lower tyres on the front . i like the stock look and if i sold the wheels that would be money in the pot for lowering job. So to lower and keep stocks i'll pay £680 all in to fit alloys i'll pay £580 plus 250 for new rubbers help me make my mind up pics of lowered busses on stocks whould help cheers lobie
High is the new low, you know :laugh2: I'm torn both ways, Major (77 westy) is rolling on the original rims, which we are about to refurb and paint white with stainless half moon hubcaps whilst Gusbus (our 73 tintop) will have anthracite BRM's, as most of the parts where missing when we bought him. If you have already bought the alloys, how much will you loose in reselling them, thats the consideration!
It's a difficult one as everyone has a different preference. Some prefer stock height buses; some prefer these with steels, others with alloys. Some prefer lowered buses; again some prefer steels, others with alloys. Each to their own. Personally, I prefer stock height with alloys, but the only alloys I like are Fuchs. Personally, I don't think steels look very good on a lowered buses; if you're going lowered, you must have alloys. Steels only look good on stock height buses. But who cares? It what makes you happy that matters.
..& isnt this what makes owning a bus different from the rest, you will never see two buses bang on identical!
With a 4" drop I'd say stick the alloys on it. Stocks with a subtle drop look good, but personally I think a big modification to ride height suits aftermarket wheels better. It's all horses for courses.
Go faster wheels look silly on an old bus whatever the height, but at stock height they look ridiculous IMO. Steelies every time for me.
stock height, stock wheels and tyres stock height 15" BRM, smaller tyres. Lots of air in them front arches - not much space between tyre and rear arch. My suspension has sagged a fair bit though, front and rear and i've a heavy westy interior and type 4 engine those same BRM's on the US '72 deluxe. Its rear end hasn't sagged, and clearly the front has a lot more air in the arches. stock height, 15" Empi 911 rims with right tyres for stock wheel circumference. These are made specifically for the bay so there is loads of room between the tyre and rear arch. Less air in the front arches I like the stock look, the alloy look, the steel look and the lowered look. Regardless of what anyone says though, poxy low profile tyres without the axle load rating on a big heavy bus isn't a good idea.
I prefer low bays and there is a massive choice of wheels that will fit 5x112. My one pet hate is aftermarket wheels on stock bays I just dont think they work at all. But it can look 'the tits' slammed on stock steels. How low are you going??
