Some, but not all, going to keep and straighten the ones to match the none sliding door side etc to keep the feel of the seperate panels The back will all be smoothed out so it looks like one solid piece with the two openings only
nice work on the guttering and roof insert ... etc.... good call on the cancellation of the chop.... by the time you drop it and tub it you would need several discs removed from your spine and your neck removed to be able to get a decent seating possition.. Looking forward to progress pics...
A grind back, skim and a quick spray of primer, far from smoothed out and finished but gives a better rough idea of the back
Ill admit to being a bit unsure of how the bus would look without guttering, it doesn't look bad at all in the piccie above. Any more showing an angled side view? I like the look, it looks right!
Not sure about the gutters - they are there for a reason. Removing seams looks good though. Knew someone back in the 70s who deseamed/deguttered a mini - looked v cool but rain water dripped into the tops of the doors - good luck with the rest of the work,
I'll have to take some after its been smoothed out, pics are hard to capture what you seen the the flesh, the side on view i posted first looks similar to a standard bus, in real life it looks like the roof has been chopped and the bus extended by a foot, a strange optical illusion going on
Just been reading into it and thats not strictly true, the body mod(if seen as structural) would still mean it would pass the 8 point check if everything else left alone, it would only change when other non body mods changed too A chassis notch would carry the same penalty, add to that suspension and axle changes, which is more common and you'd fail easier
from the DVLAs own website Chassis, monocoque bodyshell (body and chassis as one unit) or frame - original or new and unmodified (direct from manufacturer) You won’t be able to keep your vehicle’s original registration number if one of the following applies: it has fewer than 8 points it has a second-hand or altered chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame there’s evidence that 2 vehicles have been welded together to form one (ie ‘cut and shut’) removing the guttering is modifying the monocoque BIVA test and a Q plate for you
I just rang them to clarify and had it triple checked, the Vehicle department at the dvla states gutter removal isnt classed as a modification of the monocoque and they would not need notification of removal. They stated that the guttering is an item added to the monocoque and has no structural integrity. They class it as a cosmetic panel From the DVLA definition: “What constitutes a monocoque is that of how an OEM manufacturer would view it. The chassis or `cage` assembly and all components that form it, less any cosmetic panels or infills that make no structural consideration to the monocoque or its component parts.” The guy there, did however advise against a chassis notch as this would go against the unmodified chassis/monocoque
i would get them to email that to you so you can cover your ass at a later date it normally depends on who you talk to as to what answer you get
Yeah, i asked for verification from 3 different people and they put me through to a guy who deals with a lot of vw's and landrovers mainly, he was saying vw's are actually behind land rovers in numbers falling foul, the Chassis notch was a worry though, lucky we hadn't done that yet.
Best i could get with failing light, baring in mind the finishing isnt close yet, the primer is just a temp to stop the weather getting the better of us
