Stiff clutch pedal

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by the2ems, Aug 17, 2012.

  1. MOT passed yesterday after having a drag link replaced, and new wiper blades. The guy commented on the clutch pedal being a bit tough to press down, but as this is my first camper and I have nothing to compare it with, I thought this was normal. So, where should I start looking to sort it out ?

  2. cable first then the clutch itself

  3. get underneath , clean system , inspect all same system , looking for perhaps (very)much excessive play , wear, snagging, got return springs fitted ? check "em, perhaps its adjustment ?perhaps some part is broken ? me ?(obviously!) keep the costs down (hopefully!)! hope this helps (insp. costs ziltch bruv!)

Or have you got a snazzy engine with an uprated clutch?

Should be light then, I have the same clutch. Perhaps the pedal shaft needs lubricating - they rarely get oiled. Unclip the cable from the pedal (easy) and try it - it should flop about very loosely. If good, shuffle under in front of the n/s rear wheel before you reconnect it and pull the cable to check that's also free.

  8. Bowden tube? Grease the part of the cable that runs through that. You might find some loose strands when you do that, in which case replace replace the cable.

The bendy bit of clutch cable conduit alongside the gearbox.

The plastic tube on the left hand side of the picture is the bowden tube which leads to the bracket on the gearbox (mine was cracked )
