Steering Wheel Cover

  1. I was fed up (as I'm sure some are) of getting black cráp on my hands every time the humidity rises. I looked at a new steering wheel, but the existing one works fine (and has my custom horn push badge) so it seemed silly to pay a fortune for a new one. In the meantime I bought my current daily driver, which already had a wheel cover on and feels really nice while driving, so why not one for the van?

Well, first of all forget Halfords (one size fits all) as 45cm diameter wheels weren't in the designers' minds. However entering the murky world of lorry accessories and there are a few covers to choose from. I went with one of these (in size 44-46) as it was simply-styled and inexpensive.

It would also match the black/chrome wiper handle, black/chrome door pull and black/chrome escutcheons on the doors. However the seller sent me a fake walnut one, which really isn't in keeping, but was happy enough to refund postage if I returned it. Anyway the proper one arrived today and looks good. A bit of effort to fit (you just have to fit half and then lean most of your weight on it to stretch it over) but once on it's very snug, even on the rather skinny original wheel. Doesn't look like it will slip, even at full lock. Feels good in the hand too and certainly won't shed nasty blackness every time it rains.

I'll take a picture tomorrow and let you know how it drives after the weekend.

  4. I've got a 70's black plastic one that is laced on like terrordales
It fits perfect. I'm looking for a similar one for the pickup.
