  1. hi
has any one got or know the a to z of steering box removal got a wee bit of welding to do in that area

    its on a 77 bay
    cheers ct

  2. you're lucky, i think you can get the 'box away without removing the drop arm on a '77. Undo the 2 bolts which hold the coupling to the 'box, undo the drag link from the drop arm, then the bolts holding the box to the chassis and you're away:)

  3. Disconnect the coupler and drag link, undo the four mounting bolts and wiggle the box + arm out through the frame. 'Tis easy.

  4. Undo the three screws that retain the plastic throttle rod cover and remove it....likewise the two screws that hold down the dished cover at the base of the steering column...lift this cover up the column so that the bolts retaining the coupling are exposed. Then it is just possible to hold the bolt whilst releasing the nuts from below. Two things to be aware of...the two spacer washers used on one side of the coupling and a link wire that connects the flange on the column to the flange on the steering box (this provides electrical continuity for the horn. Release the drag link from the drop arm ...undo the four mounting bolts and remove the brace plate which then allows the drop arm to be withdrawn outboard through the chassis member.

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

You can undo the coupler from underneath without disturbing anything in the cab.

  7. True but I found lifting it up allowed a bit more light on the subject and extra access if the bolts were reluctant to move. Okay for you youngsters with bendy fingers and arms. :D
