    I was wondering the same.

  6. The original was loose the other one is also loose but you may be able to make two good ones from one. Or I might have set it up wrong

  7. Well at least you arent overselling it with that description.

  8. Ha well I don't believe in overselling/over pricing/scene taxing stuff. But the original is a westfalia one.........

You do know they are only tight in the dead ahead position and a few degrees either side? So the steering box/wheels must be adjusted via the drag link to ensure this?

  10. Mine ran out of adjustment so I need to get my head round what kind of wear would cause that or whether it is totally forked! Some guys who know about this kinda thing are on the lookout for me but let me know what you are after as I would like my steering sorted asap and given you need to fund your red9 :).

  11. Pretty sure in the dead ahead position is where the play is, tbh I probably havent set them up right but both are the same.

    Meh c'est la vie

Quite so. I only asked because I've never personally come across a late box that won't adjust.

  13. Mine has the play when the wheels are dead ahead. Which is fine when going down the road but you have to anticipate the wind and any ruts that will make it track off straight and true

I've yet to adjust the one on my devon, though I've had a wiggle. There's about 10mm movement between clunks at the wheel rim. But as said earlier, even if there is none, not a jot, I have still had to turn the wheel into the wind the whole time - when I commuted across the fens - one way on the way, the opposite on the way home. When I've been out and it's really windy I have had the steering wheel as much as a 1/4 turn into the wind and that simply is not play, it's something bending/the van's character, possibly the independent 4 wheel suspension doesn't help? It simply must be the whole van being pushed across the road by the wind?
Somewhat like steering a sailing dinghy close to the wind - if you get it perfectly set and balanced (a modern aerodynamic vehicle) you could let go of the tiller, if not (the old bay) you can get blisters hauling on it against the wind, loose a lot of speed and go as much sideways as forwards.

  15. Makes sense, its not four wheel independent though is it? Fronts are connected through the front beam to a point?

I may be misunderstanding that though

Not quite sure what happens at the front TBH, the middle is held firm but twisting one end you would think would have some effect (probably unwanted!) on the other.

The best wind improvement I have ever made, annoyingly, was lowering it 2 splines and having virtually no suspension.

Which was it though - stiff suspension or less space under the van or both?

I give in, yours is knackered or set up wrong and as you have too much play and it goes straight otherwise it must be knackered.

  19. Exactly where I ended up and why I ordered a red9 beam
