Any of you guys tell me how much sideways play is o.k. on the shaft to which the gear is fitted , coming out the starter motor ? cos on mine it does seem excessive
There will be a lot of play, as the gear end of the shaft is supported by the bush in the bellhousing (which isn't there when the starter's off the van).
