starter motor brush springs

  1. any advice please? bosch starter 4 brush set , checking mine(brush length) those little coiled springs that hold brushes "down" , when they spring off , as a couple of mine have, do you have to locate them on brush holder and somehow wind them round a turn to tension them?i can get em on no prob they seem a bit slack against brushes thou, ta 4 any opinion/advice

    You normally fit the brush spring first without the brush in place. Then use the tip of a screwdriver or similar to stretch the spring right back then fit the brush in from the back & let the spring go to sit onto the brush.
     
  3. cheers Smeato, did get em back in/on , stripped it down to far methinks! in a "twisted" sort of way i"m hacked off i didn"t find anything wrong ! will refit tomorrow and go back to trying to fit new heater cable now this is (my attempts to fit this cable)becoming an epic !!!
