ive the most horrendous squealing noise from my brakes - a few weeks ago I stripped the front pads down and put some copper slip in the back of the pads - squealing is still there - it now appears to be coming from the offside rear drum ... god knows what to do to stop it - any ideas? Could it be something not assembled right following a recent overhaul ? Could it be the same reason that my handbrake is totally useless since I worked on the drums ( new shoes and adjusted correctly)
Where did you fit the handbrake arm, in front or behind the shoes. Have a look! I had a totally useless handbrake after the resto., When I investigated I found the 'experts', were really not!! The lever should be behind the shoes. Squealing Disc brakes, I fabricated anti squeal shims out of some galvanised steel sheet, and this with some proprietary anti squeal grease (not copper slip) all is 99% silent. Tony
I can’t remember how I fitted them to be fair , but from what you’re saying - I’d guess I was wrong The squealing is definately coming from the rear drums not the discs - I suspected it to be the discs initially as I’d used a clear anti squeal paste from GSF and I thought it wasn’t doing the job
I had squealing and a dodgy handbrake once, the horseshoe clip had come off the handbrake lever Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Me too. The horseshoe clip was wedged under a shoe. Also hammering as the handbrake lever hit the ends of the studs. Squealing is metal on metal at the back. Something is not right.
