Split Charge, 240v, Solar system

  1. Am putting together all parts to install Split,240, solar system any good priced place can get the bus bars, inline breakers, fuseboards etc, have priced most things via Amazon but be good if can buy from same supplier.

Looking to save some dollars buying in parts than just buying a full system set-up.

  2. Are you installing an 11kV substation ;)?

Vehicle Wiring Products or 12V Planet will sell you everything you need, apart from the vacuum circuit breakers.

  3. Well may as well fit it all same time, future proofing.

Amazon / eBay is full of people with containers of cheap stuff.

Named UK suppliers have a reputation to keep up.

Buy brands that have good reviews and feedback and comments from people on here.

Solar panels seem a particular minefield in that some are cheap and work well, others are more expensive and break. And some cost more than a lithium battery for a single 100 watt but seem indestructible.

  5. Another one....Have installed a new loom which came with the bus made up I have a 6mm additional wire that runs to lesuire battery side of the bus to fuse
    .

Mike, hook up seems overkill with a decent Solar Panel set-up, not planning long time away, and could always add later if really needed, do you have both?

I added hook-up because most of my bus use is on the drive way at home (as it happens, I havent really gone back to work much since lockdown, my bus is a mobile office..) or at sites with mains power.
And 12 amps from a small 12voltPlanet Nordelelettronica battery maintainer/charger is 12 amps more than a solar panel on a dull day or at night. Basically connected across the leisure battery just like the solar charger, with a couple of mains sockets fitted along with breakers.
It is certainly something you can add later.

With 200 watts of somewhat older (Solbian brand, scrapped from a boat, damaged by peeling off roofs twice to re-glue) panels regulated by an epEver MPPT controller into a 100AH leisure battery, solar keeps up with the compressor fridge in the summer, and on brighter autumn and winter days.. Those panels are £640 each new, they were given to me as scrap.
