The trusty Mondeo decided it’s exhaust needed replacing yesterday after leaving part of it on the floor A bargain at only £1100 to replace…. 2012 - 130000 miles - it’s gotta be a bodge or scrap the Illegitimate child? WWYD? can you get bodgy things to weld the back box back onto the pipe?
Less than £300 for a full system for a 2.0 L …. obviously I’ve no idea what model you have …. and that was the dearest option when I Googled Mondeo exhaust.
If its just the back box it shouldnt be too dear at all - if its the centre pipe and includes a cat then it will be, but if the cat is fine you might be able to get it welded up? If you're located somewhere near the M4 corridor I can point you in the direction of some scrappers who pay well if needed
It’s a weird model 1.6 petrol turbo - not many about as most were diesel back in the day. Only ford can supply the correct parts - that’s not saying other ones won’t fit but who knows…
depends on whether the rest of the car is reliable etc. if you've had it years and you know it well, there is a strong argument to keep it. the issue is that second hand cars are stupidly expensive just now so you will pay through the nose for a replacement that will plumet in value in a year or two.
Had it 8 years - comfortable, quick enough, massive boot. but small engine in a big car on 130k how long will it last…. I found a local ish place that makes stainless systems and that would be £649 but 8 weeks lead. I think the best idea is to wash my hands of the problem as it’s Caroline’s car technically and I use the syncro so job done!!! winner winner chicken dinner.
Generic silencer of eBay, some eBay tube if needed, and a Saturday morning on the floor under the car with the welder.
OK so i have ordered a silencer for a 2.o tdci mondeo. Some clampy things and joint paste. From what i have guestimated the tube is the same size, the rear axle of the mondeo is the same for petrol and diesels so the pipe has to go over it in the same way. I will chop the old pipe, cleverly join the exact same size tubes together and spend the saving of £980 on buying a small loaf from the bakery, unless they put the price up again.
I have just suggested my favoured ‘head in the sand’ technique to this issue - it turns out because I have driven the car recently I am directly or indirectly responsible.
exciting update - The place I have ordered the part from have cross reffed the car reg and told me it is the wrong part - I said I know - only ford makes the correct part and its loads . So he's looked on his ford parts access all areas super computer and has found the most likely correct part, that isn't listed as correct but has a better chance of fitting. He is a very helpful chap.
