  3. You'll probably find the last number moves to "9" but no further - its usually caused by the small nylon cog in the back of the speedo on the worm drive splitting and not gripping the shaft (steady on now..).

I've just had a 3D printed replacement made up - not driven it yet but I'm hopeful this has sorted the same problem for me.... If it does I'll get some more knocked up and made available if there's interest....

  4. There's a little plastic gear off the worm drive, it's split.
They can be repaired with glue and stuff or a believe someone found a radio controller car gear that fits, google, time and a beer or three are your friends. Enjoy.

There you go then, beat me by mere moments and has the part too.

Seems to work.. has a grub screw too to stop it slipping

It's a 11t 32P pinion gear for a 3mm shaft, prob a bit overlong but doesn't hit anything and catches the worm drive so no prob

  7. I glued mine back together on the beetle, didn't do a great job, it only records 2/3 of the correct milage, possibly useful if it was a limited milage policy:rolleyes: but it has kept working for the last 27 years.

  9. Mine's been like that since we got it, I've never worried about it to be honest!

Yeah my insurance policy is 3000 miles a year.
But the mileage i gave them last year is 20ish thousand miles more than what my current clock shows as i swapped out the black faced clocks for a gray set that my bus should have.
So maybe i can swap some bits over now i know what the problem is.

  12. Mine skips every so often - only noticed it last year when checking the mpg - thought 15mpg was bit low then spotted that a round trip into Southport only clocked 5 miles instead of 20. OK for a while then does it again - probably only when a 9 turns over to 0 .

  13. Yeah prob that little plastic cog split crack opens up s bit when trying a bit harder to push numbers over and slips.. can be glued but sometimes can still slip.. it's only a tolerance fit onto the spindle so even just a bit of glue in there can open it enough to still spin

I've actually got 3 two with cracks and the one in the picture which is in two halfs
So waiting for glue to set.
    Do they require any grease?

  17. i dont bother greasing it as it only turns super slow - but I dont think the glus will hold - nylon is a nightmare for glueing. Ive heard some success by wrapping in thread and supergluing it...

  18. If you're mph.. something like this..

    https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/257402

    Grub screw fixng.. no slip

    Yes mph
I've glued it for now see how it goes also put a bit of thread lock on spindle.
But I'll probably buy that too just as a back up cheers mate.
