Speed - what speed is safe untill it starts feeling like a boat!

  1. Out of interest, what brand were the new ball joints? I've heard this in past...

  2. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

The first abandoned were Meyle, the second might be Lemforder, I can't remember, but I just ordered 4 more from same source and fitted dozens before without a hitch.

  3. The ball joint thing is worry. mine are fine currently so hope I don't need some any time soon.

my experience of new bits is way more positive. Move to van 102 rated tyres then replacing the drag link for new has led to really stable accurate steering that doesn't wander. I also did the gearchange linkages and have a lovely precise short throw gearchange now (I do have a vintage speed shifter on there too).

sticking ball joints on and knackering the handling would be a real shock.

  4. Yep mine are Meyle and I will see what happens over the next week or so - if it does not get better, it will be ball joints out and other in - but I did them my self and boy they are a bugger to do and I have a 12 tonne press.
My other option is just to get all the arms re conditioned with ball joints already done.
    Ball Joints - Balls!

  5. "There's a sticker in mine that says it's safe up to 200 m.p.h. provided you don't use the cooker. "

.....and one in mine that says Don't operate the poptop at speeds in excess of 120mph. :)

  6. had a go with mine today,,reached 103 mph. on the gps, still felt ok.
