Spare wheel placement - Lou has a lightbulb moment !!

  1. I have a type 4 engine with stubby manifolds for th edells. They are T25 manifolds which need to be shorter as the T25 engine bay is not so tall. A wheel will fit

So, the answer is that you all have to buy type 4 engines (I can build them for you ;)) with stubby manifolds and dells

    Good post that from VZi.

Blasted thing is we had a big Audi in the workshop today.

I like the idea of something normal and thin but I don't know what's out there that has a big wheel with a thin tyre. I'll look out for the Passat. My Golf didn't work but the Passat should work. I'll also look under Vito's if I see one. All of a sudden they seem to have vanished from the roads.

Also with a comment made about clearing the front brakes, it maybe only possible to have it fit the rear. So one hopes for a rear flat or a bit off roadside jiggy jiggy and wheel swap.

  4. loads of new cars dont have any spare wheel at all. there is a mini compressor and seal kit in the boot as standard. if its good enough for new cars....

yeah but i think european law says you gotta have one now

  6. Just to add, my twin slider doesn't have a wheel well as standard. It's a non walk-through as well.

  9. It is a twin slider with a 2/1 seat at the front but I can't see how you would fit a spare under the seat

Checked out a big Passat this week. 5 stud wheels, all looking promising and then l opened the boot to find...........full size spare wheel.

Spoke to our VW parts people and they recommend Audi wheels. A4 and upwards.

Having taken a look inside my cupboard l noticed the berlin cubby holes protrude into the wheel well so that will have to be modified. It looks like it's going to be another long winter full of projects :)

  13. you need to find a passat with a spacesaver

ET25 sounds like a standard wheel from VAG. Audi have been issued with these for years. I'll keep looking.

I'm not worried about load rating if l am honest. I'm only looking to use such an item to get me off the freeway or out of trouble should something occur. l know it sounds haphazard but I'd want to get myself out of the way first. At present I'd use my tyre weld and get myself off the road or crawl along with a flat if l have too.
