One for @Lasty, thanks for the help at Swinbrook with the lights. Slowly getting the spaghetti sorted!

Does anybody know what this joined black wire is for? The other wires lead to my nearside rear light cluster and other than the reverse is all working. This was lurking around the back and not connected to anything other than itself as can be seen. Thanks IMG_20200815_164624.jpg

  3. Where is it? Near the top of the engine bay hatch? Could be for the numberplate light.

IMG_20200815_171959~3.jpg @nobayinhell it is just by the top of the light cluster. The number plate lights work OK.

  5. If everything`s working wrap it in tape , tuck it into the loom and forget you ever saw it ;)

Just the reverse still not working everything else OK and forgotten about! Need to check the reverse circuit next.

  7. The reverse lights do work like that from memory. i.e. wire from gearbox switch which goes to rev light on RHS rear light cluster, then also goes across to the other light cluster via the loom above the engine bay hatch. If your rev lights don't work I bet that's the issue.

    Morning Chris,

Yep, the reverse light circuit uses black thin cable. Worth tracking the cable from the reverse light switch on the gearbox and seeing where it ends up - probably lose in the engine bay somewhere.

Thanks all. That male spade connector above was for the reverse light after all, but what took some time to figure out was that the po had connected the female spade connector to the coil and not that wire and left the fused connector to the positive coil side unconnected....hurt my brain cell to figure that out....all working now.:)

  10. With the battery negative off put a multimeter on ohms and see if you get continuity to the chassis if you do it’s an earth, tie it to metalwork, if not do the same with all conductors close by to see if you get continuity on these.

sorry typed this in and forgot to hit send, you’ve sorted it anyway

If it was an earth it would have been brown. It was black because it was switched ignition power, which is coded black, for the reversing light.
