Of course it is - I used one of those fag lighter chuck on the dash solar panels to keep my battery topped up when it had a drain I couldn't be bothered to seek out. 2 watts or something like that, it worked a treat. They're about £15 now.

  11. Oh, but it is. You could argue that even a 5-amper isn't enough. Even for a top up, mine has to go on over night.

Don't stress about it, if it's not quite suitable you can upgrade later

Now that the deed has been done I’ll come out of my closet and recommend the Lidl one even though it’s against Mikes advise and he don’t knows nuffink bout lecktricks anyhow.

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,,, What’s he know anyway.!

Caveats . I do actually rarely use this little charger and I’m a bit super tidy as in wrapping it up and putting it back in its box. I mainly use it on a small battery sort of motorbike or burglar alarm size. Probably never comes out in the winter either.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,Just watch it break down now :hattip:

I’ve a Lidl one and “upgraded “ to a Cetec one…. only used in garage, but nothing to choose between them in fact the Cetec sometimes decides to stop working for no apparent reason until I go into IT mode and switch it off and on again.

I also have a lidl special "Ultimate Speed" charger, which has been fine for a good few years :D. Just using it over winter to keep the batteries topped up while the solar panel has no energy source

Funny how folk "come out" after the event :D
I'm happy with my "gently does it" Ctek choice ...
FWIW, after a year of charging up the four year old EV battery slowly on a 13a three pin, overnight on cheap rate, the "max capacity" has steadily crept back up from, (+/-2%), 90% to 97%.
That's having done 10,000 miles on top of the 40,000 that we started with.
    (Never gone under 15% charge.)
    That's the 2nd gen battery.
Some in the States have clocked up 250,000.
The smaller first gen has had degradation issues apparently, with BMW having to either honour their "below 70%" replacement warranty, or run a "diagnostic" that magically re-sets the max capacity to 70+ (not difficult for them ... just have to change the buffer size )
So, it looks like the EV battery won't be getting it's extended life as storage in the house any time soon
