Solex Twin Carbs On 2.0 Litre Throttle stop

  1. After recent engine drop then back in, the engine runs but stalls as soon as the auto chokes cut off, is there a stop of some sort I need to adjust before fiddling with the carbs, run fine before...

The stops should be set with the tiniest gap just to prevent the plate sticking. There's a number in the Haynes/Bently.
If you try and set the tickover with the stops every other adjustment screw will cease to work.

If you take the carbs off to set the gap, also set the fast idle (or not if it was ok). The figure given for max opening will cause it to rev the nuts off!

  4. Thanks chaps, I think I might have sorted it, just connected the vaccum hose from the balance pipe to the air filter, now she tick over but will have a look at the article mentioned above and have a good check round...

Zed - I set my throttle stops as per Haynes and Bentley and spent a couple of months wonderiing why I couldn't get the idle below 1000 rpm. Eventually I gave up and followed Itinerant Air to the letter which says ignore Haynes and Bentley and lo and behold it worked for me. Nice and smooth from 750 at idle.
Good luck to Keith and Trudy, the mixture would have been too lean at idle with air blending in through the balance pipe, which would have raised the rpm a bit, so hopefully now sorted.
