Solar Panel Trckle Charger

  1. [QUOTE Provided your battery is in a reasonable state of charge already it will compensate for internal losses when left standing.

^^^^^ As above -a solar panel is totally unnecessary, if the battery won`t start the van after a few months being laid up then look for the problem ....
If the battery is trolleyed then shell out £50 for a new one, a trickle charger won`t help or increase longevity by a dramatic margin .
I`ve had 2 new batteries on the van in 20 years and done nothing other than disconnected the battery (when i remembered !) if i was laying up over winter.....

And don`t get me started about leisure batteries.......

  2. Thats not the problem tho :), as i said its for my car, i start it up and only do a couple of miles a week and slowly it runs down because im not going far enough to recharge it fully, everything in my garage is hooked up to an optimate but the car is too far away

The stereo memory used to flatten my Westy battery if I didn't use it for a couple of weeks so I got a cheap solar trickle charger like the one linked to. Despite what's said above I just left it on the dash and even in winter under a car port it kept up with the stereo drain and the problem was solved. I still use it now. Of course it won't charge a flat battery, but for what it does it's pretty convenient.
