i finally bit the bullet and forked out for a cheap slider door seal , i fitted it today and my door won't close at the back , when i say cheap it was £30 ( the cheaper one then and i'm jiggered if i am paying £70 for a another bit ) i don't think that's cheap for a bit of rubber so would expect it to do the job .

i think its not letting the door close tight at the front so the back end is unable to close in .

Anyone else had this problem and what did you do to solve it ?..

  2. Make sure it's all in properly then give the door a good slam. The cheap rubbers done have enough 'give' in them and need a bit of bedding in. Unfortunately from what I've read they stay like that.

    Yes ta Col k+

i have got it to close , its a bit tight and i have managed to lock it which is when its fully seated , so i have been told , but its not a great fit tbh .

Do you have to glue the rear one in or is it supposed to sit in freely , mine keeps coming out .

What about the curved bit on the bottom runner , that bit has no back edge so doesn't sit in anything , do you glue that bit too .

  4. It should all fit snugly dude, no glue required. You can use some but if/when you change it for a better seal you'll then need to scrape said glue back out.

  6. It will never close properly with the cheap seal

Its a case of stump up the exortionate amount of money for the best quality one or cope with the poor closing door with the cheap seal

    Might have to.

I don't think £30 is cheap for a bit of rubber that cost pennys to make.

  8. Id be happy to pay the £30 if it fitted properly and the door shut as it should

I chucked my new one in the bin and spent an age picking paint and glue of my old one to re use it

Wish i could do the same with my engine hatch seal but some thieving barsteward stole my original so now if a cheap one that doesent allow the engine lid to close flush

You pays your money you takes your choice, but it's been said many times Malc - buy the expensive seals or buy the cheap ones, chuck them, then buy the expensive ones as well.

Well i a emailed the seller saying i wasn't happy with the seal , its taken all weekend to fit and the door still doesn't close , he says they are all the same and if the door isn't right then it will never fit , i patiently explained it was ok with the old seal and the door is ok , i also told him i have damaged it a bit getting it in and out , he says they don't accept damaged returns . class ::)

It's not like you didn't know Malc so no sympathy from us. :)
Perhaps you thought we were exaggerating the crappiness of cheap(er) seals?
Tips though - unhook the rear roller from the track, swing the door out a bit and rest it on a chair. Then you can get the seal over the door into it's groove and also makes it very much easier to get the rear upright part rammed into place.
Have you got it the right way round? Bit flap at the back pointing forwards.
some outer sill panels have the seal retaining lip, some rubbish ones don't so you may have to glue the bottom horizontal part.

You'll get there, but your sliding door seal, with postage, will have cost you over £100 now. Just thought I'd rub that in. ;) good luck selling the air - that should pay for it.

  17. Malc i brought a cheap tailgate seal from megabug, it was no where near the same so i returned it in exchange for bumper irons for my beetle, got one about 3mm thick and one 1.6mm thick, wtf i thought.

Anyway paid double from c+commercial perfect.
you wanna do cheap you pay for it.

  19. This is the very reason I spent hours cleaning my old seals, they may be old but they work and I'll be damned if I'm paying £70 odd quid a seal
