Sliding door drop repaired for £12

  1. My sliding door had dropped and was making a grinding noise but I have just repaired the problem with a quick and easy repair. The problem was the nylon bush that fits on the centre door slide was broken and just sitting at the end of the track. This bush can be bought from JK for £12 including new nut and bolt. First remove the cover from the track, by removing two bolts underside and one from inside of van on the centre pillar. Then with a thin wooden plank tap the cover upwards (placed inside the cover and in front of lip), the thin rubber seal will come away with the cover. The mech is now exposed and it just the 'simple' job of fixing the new bush on the track and putting the new nut/bolt through the holes. Might need the old rivet drilling out. I found glueing the new nut inside the new bush recess made getting the new bolt to tighten easy. Ad lots of grease everywhere and refit cover, job done. See pics, bush old and new and before/ after fitting. Forgot to mention, (thanks ZED) the wheel had come off the track caused by the guide failing thus causing the door to drop a bit, so by lifting door up and putting wheel back on track and then fitting new guide solved the problem.

  3. Did you check the condition of the wheel that rolls along the same edge as the nylon block
If the block needs changing the wheel may be on its last legs

Can I point out that the nylon block is to guide and keep the hinge straight. It shouldn't take any weight, so if you cured your droopy door while changing the block either it wasn't the block what dunnit, or you've adjusted it wrong. :)

  6. Thanks ZED, what had happened was the wheel had come off the track because the guide had failed, so had dropped a bit and by fitting the new guide and lifting door to put wheel back on track has solved the problem.
