Slide door interior lock

  1. Hi Guys and Gals,
Has anyone had the same grief as me trying to get the interior lock to work properly on their late bay? (mine is 1976 with the black triangular lock button below the inner handle) My original didn't work despite drilling off the backplate and examining it - nothing broken or bent etc) I then bought another for £30 and that is no good either! I now have a 3rd on which the lock seems to work ok but was badly damaged getting it off the old door.
So I am now trying to fix lock no. 2 by drilling off the back plate and comparing the inner workings with the damaged lock no.3 (lots of phots too)

    Wish me luck!
    Any else had similar probs???

  2. Not sure how they are supposed to work and I was wondering if mine was working right.
It locks and unlocks fine from the key outside and both inner and outer handles will undo it fine if the little knob is turned one way. If I turn the knob the other way it prevents the door being opened from the outside at all, makes no difference turning the key.
Is this how its supposed to be, or is the little knob supposed to do the same thing as the key does in locking and unlocking?

Yes - the latch inside locks the mechanism independent of the external lock, stopping the handle rotating.

It needs the sliding door being totally shut with both bars extended fully into the receptacle on the forward door pillar, and the back catch being completely closed before you can operate the latch.
    .

The key operated lock in the barrel on the outside separately stops the inside and outside handle from operating the lock.

If either lock is locked then the door cannot be opened. And unlocking one does not unlock the other.

I found on mine that the little pin that slides against the door panel in an arc had cut a groove in the metal and had become thinner so the pin did not engage properly with all the bars and levers inside the lock.

Result the little latch on the inside doesnt always work unless the door is banged home hard with a good helping of luck. Not good.

  4. Mines an early and you have to pull the outside handle up until it clicks this pulls the rear of the door fully home and then you can flick the inside lever down.
Wondering if it possible you have an early mechanism or part of one fitted.

  5. Many thanks for that, no mine is definately a late lock so something is broken or bent inside. Its stange that both locks have exactly the same problem, so I was wondering if this was a really common fault. Im still working on it!!

  6. I've got a similar problem. I can't lock, unlock or even open the sliding door from inside.

It's on my to do list so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, and posting any results I get.
