Agree with the war or not; no one can justify saying our guys and girls have lost their lives for nothing.
To soldiers, doing their job to the best of their ability and putting their lives on the line if necessary is probably their no. 1 priority.
I know a fair number of people both ex and serving military, none of them are of the opinion we should just pull out now and sod the consequences.

    Of course it's a waste; I didn't say it's not.
Unfortunately, it's not as simple as just pulling out.

  5. having just left the military and having served in afghanistan, iraq, kuwait, bosnia, kosovo & northern ireland, can i just say that please dont get caught up in the whole 'they have lost their lives for nothing' routine, every serving member of our armed forces know what they have joined up for and they do their job without question and are out in these places fighting for each other and dont let the politics get in their way. to say it was for nothing takes away everything from them and their whole ethos of what the military is about.
it is immensely sad for all those concerned and the impact on the family is immeasurable, but whether you agree about our position in afghanistan and the rest of the world or not, lets all think about the fallen and those that are left behind to pick up the pieces without letting the why's and what for's get in the way.

may they all rest in peace.

    :'( :'(

  10. Quite a few military personnel have been murdered by people they were training - usually it is americans who get hit but the french recently got a taste of it.

Safer for who? In the years running up to our intervention the number of UK military deaths in Afghanistan was zero - now it stands at over 400 - it was a lot safer for us before we went in.

  11. So sod the Afghans as long as us Brits are ok?

  13. I've lost a good few friends out in afghanistan who I have fond memory's off. And off people who would never have batted an eye lid to stand in front of you to protect you! Yes a few of these friends were killed by an Afghan police officer last year, But I know for a fact that not one of them would have guessed it or would do anything any the different.
Only serving or ex-serving people can comment on the difference they have made, No one else. Have you been there seen the things they have seen, No is the likely answer. So how can you comment on if there life was lost in vein, They are were and are doing jobs they truely beleive in!

The question I have watching this story and listening to it is:
Why were they "missing in action presumed dead" before being "killed in action"?
If they were "missing in action" This means no other front line troops were near or couldn't get to, for some considerable time, get near the armoured vehicle they were in. WHY?
And what size bomb did they use to take out a warrior armoured vehicle By f*~*k these things are armoured!!
I know for fact these things aren't reported on before the operation is over, So why reported as "missing in action, Presumed dead"

I guess it was the explosion inside the vehicle that actually killed them?

The IED caused the ammunition in the Warrior to detonate. They had no chance.
I heard the wreckage described as a crumpled shell.
