We’ve all seen them, these 5 are all within 500yards of home and pass them regularly on our dog walks. 71 Beetle has been under cover for 11 years that I know of Porsche I’ve mentioned recently, he thinks it’s worth £1500 so he’s welcome to leave it there another 5 years! Scirocco under the sheet similar time scale Recently taken a bit of interest in these 2 on the same drive, old boy is 90 but I’ve realised I know his daughter who bought Congi’s old blue Devon off me! The Carina starts and moves but been off the road for 5 years, doesn’t excite me much though I know he wants rid and it’d be mega cheap! The Merc is more interesting but been stood 10 years Surprisingly ok inside!
I guess some folk hoard vehicles same as other hoard stuff inside their houses. Seems such a waste but what can you do?
Last taxed 1993, they’re not worth much in good working condition 5 tyres and a brake overhaul at the very least could take care of a grand so
I thought you were out of the trade now? I looked for ages before I bought a 944 instead - you won't find many, if any, Historic 924's with V5 etc for less than £1500, other than shells and write offs. Spend £1000 on that and you'll have a £4000 car.
In the 80s and 90s in New York we used to find some really classic cars in backyards, the best I found was a 67 GTO 6.6 Liters engine, But we look for these old big Chevy caprice people movers from the 70s, for a hundred bucks. Or so ,,and then we pull the engine out for racing and throw the rest away, Now the old cars sitting around aren’t so desirable,
I know of a White MKII Scirocco with under 60,ooo miles on it. Just sat in a garage.Been there a long time.
Have a look at the Yank car and van scene here, 70's Chevvy vans etc are rocketing in price, even Ford Ecolines are going for way over £10k. I would think those imports exceed old VW's now.
Once spotted a triumph stag peering out from under a tarpaulin. Used to walk passed regular. Then one day saw the guy gardening and asked him about the car. Bit my head off telling me how much it was worth. Not many lasted long underneath tarp, bet he got a shock when he finally looked inside.
Of course. With beige carpets, beige upholstery and brown steering wheel. Beige tinted windows would be good as well.
Nearly, it’s just the mindset of not wanting anything I can’t make a profit on I used to have one identical so there’s a nostalgic pull too.
I know someone with two Capris, a Dodge/Commer van and possibly a couple more cars. I think he is looking to sell up. I'll ask him on Friday - the capris were garaged years ago in mint condition.
I am exactly the same ! 99.9% of old cars that come up for sale at the garage I have zero interest in them unless I can make a few quid on them with doing zero work . Most people in the trade lose their car mojo in their late 30s .I do though enjoy discovering the old cars tucked away and the journey of trying to buy them .
