As this thread seems to be quiet and links to my question, I was wondering if somebody ciuld help with instructions how to remove the cover? I've taken off both screws from underneath but Bentley mentions a third side screw that does not exist/I can't find, in my camper. Photo attached. It is rust along the length, so that may be binding it all together, but some techniques would help

    Thanks

It's on the C post, inside, just above the rear catch. Long screw goes right through from the inside. If you have headliner down the inside of the C post you won't see it.

Now I'm stumped, as you can see no screw here or behind the trim. But something is holding the cover close to the door side. Does the outer cover push up or slide or a mixture of the two when the fixings are released?

Block of wood under/hammer upwards - start at the front. :)
    No chance of sliding these.

Thanks guys (@Zed & @paneuropaul ). Panel off with sim persuasive hammer and wooden blocks, side on to loosen and upward along length.

  6. Interesting. Always wondered what that hole was for.
Poking a stick through (technical, I know), it definitely has a corresponding hole beyond the pillar itself.
Is it just a screw, or a proper bolt?
    Many thanks.

My cover has two screw from underneath, no attachment point for an internal screw that was shown above. This may be needed for the door runner, but as far as I can tell, is not needed to take off the outer cover only.

  8. Any tips for getting the track covers in place? Excessive swearing has no noticeable effect…

Sort of like getting it off - line it up and thump it into place without messing up the paint, as the seal pressing on the cover and the side of the bus should make it hard to push down.

After seeing how much water got round the seal, and rotted things, I switched to a line of silicone sealant..

  11. Thanks. I’ll start with that and see if mine is the same.

I found that m5 bolt through the pillar was annoyingly longer than anything I had. Ended up welding a nut onto some studding..

The pictures seem to show a socket head countersunk bolt.

I'm puzzled as to what this screw holds, I don't have one ...should I, what does it do, I'm I missing out and will something important fall off, or Mama Mia, already has fallen off......help:eek:

It just helps to hold the front corner in tight. I think VW were worried the sliding door might catch on it as it's only that side. Mostly they are missing and I think after a while they weren't fitted anyway.

I fitted mine to block the hole that might be letting water..

    Technical stick test #2.
Right through to nothing corresponding on the trim (which is off at the moment).
A bolt has not been there for a while I guess.
Certainly a place for water to flow in so i’ll probably just fibreglass over it, if the trim allows.
Unless I am brave enough to put a rivnut in the pillar (to seal it) and have another one perfectly lined up on the trim.
