Show us your sexy engine compartment!

  1. While my engine and fuel tank is out this week, I'm giving the engine compartment a thorough clean, strip and repaint.

It is seriously minging.....different shades of paint, under-seal, years of oily gunk, messy wiring, some rusty bit so sort, and is just pretty tatty all round.

My plan once I've done the clean and little welding is to paint in the original Neptune Blue, clean the engine and paint the tinwear.

What do folks to do make it all look nice and snazzy!? Looking for a bit of inspiration! :)

    Cheers

  2. At the moment I close my eyes and use my imagination, if I want it to look nice and snazzy.

Looking forward, with envy, to see what real world ones look like I’m months (probably more than I think) away from doing what you are.

  14. Sorry to hijack a thread, but I have questions for Mark.

Hi Mark, a very tidy looking engine bay. I see you have a section of rigid pipe going from the flexi on the right side of the snail fan to the heat exchanger. Is this a standard part and where did you get it from please?

    Thanks,

    Ade

Mine looks a mess but it works well.

This will be driven 500 miles before Sunday evening.

@paradox do you need an air filter bracket ?

    I’ve got one I could donate ;)

  17. These look great ☺️

What do people use for painting tinwear? Just a normal spray?

My big 1600 fan cover could do with a paint too.

    Cheers

  18. Common sense told me to use a High Temperature paint. Having read quite a bit by others painting their engine bays and zero mention of High Temperature paint I went ahead and used what I already had...just a regular spray paint:

Blasted and powder coated tin and fan housing, bead blasted fan left natural. Hand painted bay using 2 pac without much hardener.
I recommend powder coat for tinware, it's a big job to DIY it all, a type-4 has 40+ pieces.

Do not use high temp paint unless you are going to cure it in an oven.
