Show us yer Propex

  1. Hi all

I got a shiny new Propex from Santa (well JK actually who had a deal on) and am about to fit it as it is getting pretty cold around these parts. I would be interested to know where best to site vents, thermostat etc. The heater will go under the rear seat as far away from the sliding door as possible I imagine.

I don't think I have a lot of choice given all the furniture in my van (Its a Westy Berlin) but thought someone out there will have done it and might have tips e.g. where not to put things. I am going to run it off LPG as my van has the American type underslung gas bottle powering the cooker.

Here are a couple of shots of the interior as it is

Under the bus at the side the Propex will have inlet & exhaust pipes

  2. This is not mine and looking at your Berlin layout it may not work anyway but might give you some ideas

Ive also read that you can plump the heater into your main original heater tube, I think its bluebird that does a proper kit for it.

Mine is under the seat and is the same layout as yours Bertiebot

  4. It runs off a bottle under the sink as i got shot of the American Lpg tank that was under the van

  5. Thanks guys. Food for thought. I ended up sorting out my locks over the weekend so the Propex is definitely next. Where did you site the thermostat?

  6. The thermostat is on the side of the cupboard i'll get a photo in the morning , i use mine all the time and it's been great warms the van up really quick even when i'm driving

  7. Decided where to put the unit, marked & drilled the holes & then fitted the unit, the instructions supplied are very good so I don't really need to do a how too, the only advice I'd give is to think very carefully before you drill any holes, I marked mine, checked & double checked & the effort was worth it. I'm happy with where the holes come out underneath.:-

  8. Fitted the termostat/control unit & ruted the wire to the propex, connected it to my new 12V lesure fuseboard:-

Wiring nearly finished just a bit more tidying up & cliping, got my Propex vents fitted because of other equipment I had to offset the two of them, the bottom one is warm air out & the top is fresh air in.:-

Whenever these threads crop up I'm always amazed how much storage space you guys are prepared to loose to fit these little heaters.

Favourite seems to be under the RR bed along with mains consumer units, Zig things, wiring, speakers and fuse boxes all usually unprotected from "chucking stuff under the bed" damage, with cold air inputs also just inside the RR bed. That's a heck of a big space - the most useful storage in most campers - to give up for plumbing. Can't you mount the propex under the van between the chassis rails? It looks quite robust...

 to RIckyroooooooo's more compact installation.

  11. A fair point. Ricky does this mean you do t carry a spare wheel now or have you stuck that somewhere else?

spare currently fastened to the rear of the passenger seat standing up on the floor with a bungee until i get a mount for the rear of the van (devon style) i just lob it under the van when camping, what you don't see in the pic's is i now have a shelf above the propex for storing the barbie and water bottle.
