I know you have tools, but one day he'll leave home and maybe not in a position to borrow yours, that's all I meant - if he's like the rest of us he'll be using the jack that's only for changing the wheel and a jenga pile of whatever he can find.

Yep, I never had any mechanical wisdom passed down from my father so aged 20, I nearly killed myself changing the gearbox on my then girlfriend's Avenger using only a scissor jack, a pile of bricks and a basic socket set... needless to say, the car fell off the pile of bricks as I rolled out of the way:eek:

He is slowly collecting his own sets.
I’m pretty surprised at what he has, tbh.
I don’t think he will be ‘like the rest of us’…He’s much younger…:p;)

I was thrown on the YTS motor mechanic,at 16.
Plus my father had a heavy plant hire,in the ‘70’s.
It was all diggers and jcbs, low loader lorries and diesel tanks, large warehouses with inspection pits, and heavy lifting gear.
Living there as a very young child, made me very aware of danger.
    Not a lot of choice,really.
Rebuilt my first motorcycle at the age of 15. A Yamaha DT175M.
Too young to ride it…legally…but I rode it…;)

My Dad did a bit of club motorsport in his youth and was interested in cars but didn't work on them. I picked mechanicing stuff up from all sort of influences: my Grandpa, on my Mum's side, who I remember had a Morris Minor convertible; his son, my Uncle, who built a Special on a Ford 10 and let me drive his Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV a week after I passed my driving test, and his Dolomite Sprint a couple of years later; a neighbour who let me help him rebuilt his Cortina 1600E engine when I was 14; a pal of my Dad's who let me help him take the engine out of his Austin 1800 when I was 13 and has encouraged me ever since, he's nearly 90, still mad on cars - Toyotas now - and still leading me astray! Mostly self taught with a school friend in our teens then tagging on to all sort of eccentric characters along the way. Learnt the mechanical engineering theory elsewhere....

    It’s a great hobby.
I must have saved a fortune by not having garage bills.
Still learning, and still willing to learn.

  10. Watch out for turds in the sea
Apparently there’s a big pollution problem along the north east coast at the moment.

I was at Scarborough today and they must have floated past.
A good day out and explored bottom end...lovely old town before the spa took off in Victorian times.
    Found these gems.

The photos are taken just behind the main seafront in the narrow cobbled streets.

I have only 'paddled' up to my ankles and to be fair the water has looked really clear. Had I seen a 'Richard the 3rd' I'd have been out the water in a flash.

Coming here was a 'spur of the moment' thing and after selecting a residence (that would accept dogs) to 'flop in',..my next selection was drinking establishments within close proximity.....I've not been disappointed with either.

What has made me smile is that motorhomes/campers are parked on the same road (some half on the pavement with chocks to level them up) and have been here as long as we have with no parking fines/fixed penalty notices.

I really can not fault the place and my wife is willing to return so for me that in itself speaks volumes (the dog may not be so keen as it's all steps to and from the beach....but the 'funicular' makes coming back up easier).

Here's a 'pano' view from the window and a link to the vendor that rents the actual apartment we selected.

And here is an example of the 'tourers' stopping rent free (and why bl**dy not say I). Should I be fortuitous enough to do a coastal tour in the camper, Saltburn-by-the-Sea will be on my itinerary.
