Amazingly it still seems to hold under pressure. Talking to one of the neighbours, an old engineer who helped lift it out of the car, he reckons it'll likely have leather seals and maybe best left alone? In a life where I've got ample free time, it would be nice to give it a once over though and maybe a lick of paint - but another 16 years yet till retirement

Slight progress yesterday , but in a quandry, new nails came yesterday and they are so much better than the ones i used before , ,so do i remove the earlier boards that i was happy with up to the new nails arrived , or do i leave well alone and avoid certain damage to the wood whilst trying to remove it . This is typical of my jobs and of my age . Put issues where they dont exist . Wife says leave well alone so bugger it their staying on.
