It's a split!
The blunt tail of the heater cable .... Came spinning out under tension when I released it from the drill chuck ...
Thought I was being clever, having twisted the cable anti-clockwise so as not to unravel the sleeve, but since the other end was going round as well I didn't realise how much recoil there was going to be

 

It was dripping like crazy.
The unit floor will forever remind me.
