  2. I've got a lovely silver 1970's tilley lamp which I adore but hardly ever seem to use :( Must take it with us more often.

I've also just sold a red one on ebay as I somehow managed to win both auctions at the same time!!!

  4. Got a new Petromax a couple of Yules ago. Build quality not as good as the old ones as I found out. Had a flair up whilst crouched over it and set me hair on fire, there was a lot more than I have after that. Ended up head first in the North Sea to put out the flames, middle of the night and the middle of january. Fettled the leaks with exhaust sealer.
Have a Kelly Kettle. Hand full of twigs and a brew in ten minutes, mint!
    Piccies when I get home

I have a very old brass primus stove but I went off that when it flared up inside my tent on the moors in Scotland. I have a Honey Stove now and like Pony pick up a few twigs on your walk and you've got the makings for a nice hot brew when you stop.

The hurricane is great for the van when used with citronella lamp oil, nice soft light. Keep it in an old BDH when on the road, so no spillge or smells.
The presure lamp is a beast, light like an exploding sun. Lighting it up on Rapid Start usually gets a few worried glances from the neighbours on site. Love it though, pure theatre.

Think the old Kelly Kettle is hiding under the stairs the mo.

Ours was an original chrome plated Tilley lamp, which I used to run on jet A1.
One night on the patio, a friends young son walked up to it, attracted like a moth to a flame, then he put his hand on the top:(

They need maintaining and fettling quite a bit, keep on top of that and all you need to worry about is that it's a canister of presurized, flamable liquid, reliying on century old technology, with a white hot mantle on the top of it. Fumes side of things, I've done what can be done and it still smells quite a bit according to Mrs P; but then she's got a nose like a bloodhound.
