Anyone any ideas on this dilemma?
Mrs Roo has had another car and we haven't sold her original one yet, her insurance won't let her tag the cars together so on Wed 00.00 hrs her car is uninsured and it goes over to her "new" one, i'm pretty sure it's now illegal to have an uninsured vehicle? so we need to get some temporary insurance to enable us to sell it on the main road outside the house as well as incase it gets nicked, i can't tag it to my policy 'cos i'm on commercial insurance and the car isn't in my name anyway....... therefore i'm guessing i'll need a 30 day policy or suchlike - unless anyone knows different?

edit - i just rang my insurers and they say even though i'm not the registered keeper as it belongs to my spouse they can still insure it in my name.... but it's 3rd party fire and theft only £250 excess 50 miles policy for 30 days £118....... i declined that one!

if it's taxed it has to be insured, if it's sorn it doesn't, thing is, being taxed is a selling point so it looks like fun and games ahead.

  3. Think Adrian flux has got a separate company for sort term insurance

  6. that's lots. I don't suppose you could insure for 6 or 12 moths and then cancel and get a refund when you sell it?

that was what flux did say would be cheapest to be honest a full year pay in full and get refund, trouble is for all we know we could sell the bleedin thing in a fortnight! it's never simple!

  8. how about this:- Set fire to it now, claim on insurance. you don't have to sell it then and only have 1 car to insure. problem solved.

Getting a refund could end up being a nightmare too unless you sell it really quickly.

lol yeah, tell me...... well, the punto is now on the road and we had to get up early this morning to go for a test before mrs roo would go out alone in it to work, the astra is now on the drive and at the moment uninsured, god knows what i'm going to do as if i don't insure it i won't really be able to sell it as no-one will be able to test drive it, this is before i park it on the main road to sell it, need to bite the bullet one way or another i guess.

really struggling on this, can't fault flux they have been lovely and obliging and i honestly believe have given me the cheapest i can get - but it's so "dead money" i just dunno what to do, Monthly £118 but they will do yearly £248 limited miles etc etc, that way if i sell i can cancel and get refund, cancel fee £25 but if i cancel after 1 month i'll only get £88 back, 2 months £64 back and going down..... it's a game of risk as if it sells in a month £118 is best, if it takes 2 £248 is best..... if you don't insure you can get done by the law and nobody can test drive it etc etc...... i honestly am lost on what to do.

if we sorn it it will then be harder to sell as we can't park it on the road or offer test drives, as i say it's a game of risk calculation when you have a bottom end market car to sell.

just scrap it you will get 200 quid for it plus the 200 you have saved on insurance thats 400 then cash in the tax disk
plus the money you save on advertising it

how much is the car worth

an 03 plate astra sxi with 75k miles is too good to scrap but i do get your reasoning, if it was me i'd cash tax and e-bay it and just take whatever but mrs roo is attatched to it and seems to think it's worth more than a grand....... i honestly think we will be lucky to get 700 for it.

    eBay is the way forward
I doubt you'll get £1k, though more likely on an auction

mate i agree, i've looked at a few and in my opinion nicer ones than ours aren't making a grand, i've tried telling her but she won't have it - sometimes you have to cut your losses, the punto is here the astra has to go is the bottom line.
