Please, everyone go careful with any heating/cooking appliance. Please install a carbon monoxide detector/alarm. This incidence may have been caused by a disposable BBQ... Not even a gas appliance !! http://www.metro.co.uk/news/898339-girl-dies-from-carbon-monoxide-poisoning-at-bucknell-campsite
i got a co alarm for the van last year after another news storey like this. £20 or so for a batter powered alarm that is no bigger than lets say a packet of fags of a digi camera, can be fitted anywhere, uses one battery a year, and can save a life or two. good call bag head every bus needs one. perhaps someone could get a "group buy" aranged for TLB owners or any other club.
Nasty stuff carbon monoxide poisoning. Ironically Jo and I were talking about the family who took a BBQ into their tent last year and died. I have a CO2 alarm in my bus.
You can get little stick on gauges that change colour when it detects carbon monoxide. They are really cheap and and this thread shows, can be a real lifesaver!
Seriously, a group buy?? They are so cheap I'm surprised by how many don't have them. Mines a Kidde unit. Bit sensitive but I like that. I had the back door open while working on Mike4's with his running. The alarm went off. Had us in the garage confused as to what it was. It wasn't as if my bus was parked that close.
http://www.screwfix.com/p/fireangel-battery-co-alarm/25134 i got something like this...i guess they all do the same job just choice i guess on the style....this one is cheaper than i payed...£15.99 screw fix
Even if you're not burning anything you need a CO detector, one of my heat exchangers was cracked, fuel mixture was on the lean side so it was not that obvious from the smell. CO detector started bleeping...
It's something I never really thought about before. Today, though, I bought this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fireangel-CO-9X-Sealed-Carbon-Monoxide/dp/B004JNPM8O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336391715&sr=8-1 It's one where you don't have to worry about having to remember to change the batteries.
Bless my father. He called tonight because of these reported deaths from BBQ's and stuff being taken into tents. He didn't realise I don't like really BBQ's. On a more Darwin award thing though, are people really that silly to take something that smokes into a confined space?? Until these accidents were reported I'd never have thought it a good idea to do that.
