    Rivet some brackets on!

  2. Maybe yeah but I'm just asking for rust problems with drilling holes no?

  3. I cant quite see the pic very well but i think i know what you mean, so excuse me if my idea is barking up the wrong tree here..
Could you not use the kind of clips that the cab door handles use to secure it or the smaller ones?

Wire brush a bit of the paint off before welding the tabs on. You'll never see the fresh paint when the dash is back in.

I'm around a similar stage on mine and you've just reminded me to check if I've scrapped the old tabs or not :(

  5. You might be able to get some paint on the back of the panel once they've been welded back on by using a thin brush through the wiper holes. And then just waxoyl the hell out of it afterwards.

  8. The guy that welded it obviously never offered it up to the van before doing the job. Very disappointed. Was making great progress all weekend until this

Arg what a shame. What's it like at the other end? There's some adjustment in the lower bracket but it probably wouldn't be enough.

  10. It sits in better at the other end but that's way too far out to work. Gonna need to be redone. Took nearly 2 years to get the bus back from him him in the first place so getting him to repair this will take forever

  11. I restored my first bus 15 years ago. It was my first attempt at welding and even I did a better job on the sliding door

  12. Called him today and applied some gentle pressure to come sort it so hopefully he will soon

  13. Still waiting for the paint guy to come fix the issues but I've been tipping away at the bus. Here's some photos of the progress so far. The engine tinware is in bonda red oxide primer at the moment. will be painting it at the weekend.

  15. On the bus? no but I've only had it back since January. Stop scaring me

  16. im just curious to see how well blasting really does work! what primer went over the bare metal? epoxy or etch?

  17. I'd be lying if I said I knew @rustybus75 :) All I remember is it was yellow and fairly rough to the touch. It's been primered again just before paint. I'd recommend the sandblasting purely for the fact it reveals everything that needs doing and makes the bus a lot cleaner to work with.

I got the underside of ours blasted. Well worth it! I sprayed zinc primer straight over it then when I'd repaired everything covered with epoxy mastic.

  19. Here are a few pics of the work done so far. I find I'll start a job and then realise I don't have a part I need to finish it. or that the part is broken and needs to be replaced.
I've done most of the brake lines, replaced shoes and pads, fitted most of the passenger door mechanisms, refurbished the gear shaft, cleaned up and painted tinware and other bits, bought a 1745cc engine because my 1600 had too much corrosion in the case. my last job over the weekend was to strip, clean the CV joints and refit the drive shafts with new boots. messiest job ever!

  20. So I've decided to open a heat exchanger to check the j tube for leaking and it looks good. Going to weld it back together and patch it up. Should I paint the inside or leave it as is? If I were to paint it, is there something I could use that wouldn't smell and would colour matter (heat absorption)?
