  1. After what seems like for ever due to ill ness, time , weather and generally lack of interest  i have finally finnished the complete rebuild of my engine ( 1st time ive ever done this sort of thing ) , and got it in the bus today and it sprang into life after a bit of fettleleing with no nasty noises or bangs .

Still needs a bit more fettleing wih the carbs ect .

Just need to get it through the mot now :( .

does anyone know the running in period for a type1 engine as in changeing the oil for the 1st time , heard somewhere it was 500 miles ???

  2. Ours was 500 miles.

Great job with the engine, k+ to you

Bet that was a lovely moment - reckon 500 miles too

  5. If you're breaking in a new cam (that 3000rpm for 20 minutes thing that I had to do when my new engine went in) then you drop the oil straight after you've done that, then the next lot of oil for 500 miles, then another lot of oil for another 500 miles, then once you've changed that, it's on to 3000 mile changes as normal.

  6. Brilliant news! Have you tried putting something up in the mech and tech section? You might get a few more pointers.

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

...and if not a new cam I'd change it after the first 100 miles. That's what I did anyway as most of the bedding in wear occurs pretty quickly from e.g. new piston rings.

  8. Thanks for the replies , that was the only thing that wasnt renewed ( cam ) as was in very good condition .

Think i will give it a gentle run to the mot station and back and then change it and hope it passes :)
