I am spending quite a few bob getting the mechanics to get my bay up to scratch. Long term I am keen to do a lot of servicing myself eg oil, sparks, tyres, etc. Is there a website or book (almost an idiots guide) as to the essentials of servicing your bay. I found something on classcampers forum but no diagrams or pics so some things didnt make sense thanks in advance
you can google most of the stuff or even you tube it.... with a bit of pataince and time, and a few tools you would be sorted.. I dont let anyone near my bus...
Take a look here for a manual http://thelatebay.com/index.php?topic=299.0 it covers pretty much everything The Bently manual ^ that in print form. This site is very good http://www.ratwell.com/ The haynes manual covers most things too, get the one that suites your engine type also i think there is a site called 'The Late Bay' where theres people who can answer almost any question
John Muir's "Keeping your volkswagen alive" is worth having - nice pictures, but a bit wordy and some stuff is plain wrong. But, a happy read. Get a Haynes manual (the green one, or purple one, or both - they pop up cheap on eBay). They're not as bad as folk say. Look at the pics and get your head around how the various bits of your van work. You've got to do this to get some understanding of how it all fits together. The good news is that busses are very simple beasts, as most 70s vehicles are. You can't start fixing stuff unless you've got a workshop manual. Tech sites like TLB are good for resolving issues, but asking every 5 mins on the internet is prob the worst way of doing it, IMHO. You've got to understand this stuff...as above, most stuff's not that difficult. You'll make mistakes, but that's the way to learn
leaving the engine running on choke to warm it up first before driving off, about the length of time it takes to smoke a roll or similar. Of course that gem may have been edited out since I last read it in 1990 ) Sorry Snotty for jumping in there but that was one piece of "advice" I've never forgotten.
Have a look at the service notes on the techenders website http://techenders.webs.com/index.htm?no_redirect=true
