Anybody got a recommendation for a house alarm. I'm thinking wireless and needs to be pet friendly. Preferably remotely enabled so I can remotely arm and disarm in case kids forget to set it. Something like this maybe? http://www.screwfix.com/p/yale-hsa-app-enabled-alarm-kit/5683p?_requestid=155084 Any recommendations? Also looking at CCTV Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Personally, although I have a house alarm, I wouldn't bother. When was the last time you saw anyone take any notice when an alarm went off? I'd just put up the box on the outside with a flashing LED. It'll work just as much as a deterrent as a proper one!
There's been a few break ins around mine so purple are a bit more aware and vigilant at the moment Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I installed one at home recently, a Yale HSA6400 wireless system - would definitely recommend it, but would urge good planning on the PIR placing. It's pet friendly, but not overly friendly to lights from passing cars shining through shutter blinds!! There's been a few evenings of me running around the house in the buff looking for someone breaking in, only to find out it was just next door coming home! Not sure who'd be more scared if I found someone to be honest, me seeing a burglar or them seeing a 6'4" fat bloke with a semi? Might be enough to make them think twice about coming back! Anyway, would definitely echo Baysearcher's point about most people ignoring them as false alarms when they go off, but it's as much about deterrence as it is about alerting. That said, I'd much prefer to be alerted to something than to risk someone getting in after recognising a dummy box on the wall outside. One thing I did do, not sure it's relevant to you or not, is to buy an extra PIR for it and leave it in my van. They're much more accessible to ne'er do wells than the inside of a house and when you go away in the van, you can just take it out, de-register it from the system and head off.
We have a Yale hsa alarm its very good, just as good as a similar quality wired system, I also bought a remote keypad for upstairs and you can do an at home alarm so you can set it at night down stairs. It also tells you which sensor triggers as well after an alarm which is nice. Never had any false alarms with it. The best thing is light timers and make sure your house is fully lit up of an evening. They will look for a dark house because odds are its empty, round our way the police did a big campaign about lighting your house up at night.
We have a wireless Yale alarm SR-320. Pretty good. But basic, ok as a deterrent but not good enough to tell the insurance company. Can do settings activate etc. via phone. We purchased some additional PIR's probably have some left you can have cheap. Don't bother with a PIR with camera, the photos it takes are so bad you couldn't recognise anybody off it anyway. We have a PIR in garage as well. Regards to CCTV we have ucam247. Can access remotely, it paid for itself 10x over when my van rear end got damaged. But they not the cheapest but quality seems pretty good
I use a Swann CCTV set up, can look in via my phone and watch the pond wildlife at night, has already earnt me a bottle of JD from the neighbors
Nice one Ray, that ucam 247 looks really good. I like the all in one type solution. Can you have extra cameras on it? Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
No that looked rubbish. I got a buffalo 4 drive NAS - 2TB similar to below. Buffalo TS3400D0404-EU TeraStation 3400 4TB 4 Bay Desktop Network Attached Storage https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EJ3GQIE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8QkazbKDGC00K something like QNAP TS-451 will do or any NAS
So it can just connect to any WiFi NAS? What about a NAS that is connected via my router? Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Not wifi NAS, wired that's how you need it. NAS wired to router CAM connected to router via wifi (or cable but I used wifi)
Web client of mine just bought the 3 camera version of this for their business which auto backs up to the cloud for 7 days for free so the tea leaves can't get rid of any footage if they find it and smash it up.
if you want my opinion (sparky) i would skip the security alarm, and concentrate on the CCTV. i have recently done some CCTV installs on some bespoke new builds and a shop, and recommend HIKVISION kit. I used there 4mp 1080P cameras (bullets) and the 3tb NVR (network compatible so you can remote view). high quality HD picture, good quality, good price. All wired in single cat 6, although i'd run 2 cat 6 to each point to allow for future, or if there is an issue with the first cable. dont bother with Swann, or similar. They are a bit pony, and definitely DIY cheap kit.
Fitted a few of these for friends and family...dead easy to set up and fit...never had a problem post fitting....deffo recommend Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
After looking today I think wireless camera is the way to go as i have an awkward layout for running cables inside the house. And will also concentrate on CCTV as opposed to an alarm. At the moment the ucam247 is the front runner Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Bought a couple of hikvision cameras off eBay Work well good coverage especially from the box they are in on top of the cupboard. If you get an alarm get one that dials your phone to let you know when it goes off.
