Seat frame plastic coating?

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by LewBLew, Jun 17, 2014.

  1. The plastic coating on my Devon Caravette seat frames has largely peeled off and looks awful. Is there any way of easily getting this off and re-coating it? It's more than just paint, it's like a rubbery plasticy grey coating on top of the metal.

I've massively stolen this photo as I couldn't be bothered to take one myself! This is what it should look like

  2. You can scrape it off grind it off ,or buy a special remover from Eastwood to remove it then repaint it the same colour

  3. Thanks I'll look up this Eastwood thing. But where to get paint/coating which gives a rubbery finish? I'm worried just leaving it as metal will hurt people if they scrape their legs on it, or could scrape the van.

its probably plasti coat, though it may be powdercoat, easiest way is blast and re-powdercoat, wont be to expensive on something like that, k and n refinishers in porchester can do it

I tried Plasticoat on my Devon seat frames. If you want a finish like porridge it's the stuff for you. It really is useless! Ended up spraying Hammerite, which gives a tough and thick feel.
