170A will do you proud Phil. People moan about one type of welder or another, but my old SIP 170 with a cheapy cheap Euro torch bodged on without the Euro fittings is fine and dandy. It can't be worth more than £50 but it welds lovely. :D

@zed Can you fit a euro torch on any welder? Why is it better than the bog standard ones?

My OG SIP torch had a large gas pipe with other stuff sharing the gas pipe and a plastic liner for the wire.
Metal liners are smoother action and the gas pipe being very small dia and seperate means you get no delay on the puff of gas and it starts to weld quicker and cleaner. The whole things seems more responsive. It was only £30 on ebay and replaced because my old was leaking gas and held together with parcel tape. :) At £30 it doesn't look like it'll last long, but as I want to replace it with a smaller unit in time so I can be mobile it'll do for now and works great.

You can of course get a Euro fitting for the welder, then a Euro torch C/W the connector so it's easy to replace the torch in future and it comes apart to transport. I can't see any other reason for having one. It's just "modern" I reckon. Someone will be along to correct me I'm sure, I haven't really looked into it - if I point my welder and it welds, that's as far as I look until it goes wrong.

The euro torch is the equivalent of a USB for welders it makes things cheaper by standardisation , in the olden times when @zed was a lad torches specific for individual welders were much more expensive. I just got myself a new mini welder, was t too expensive but it's only 20kg and goes from 10-180 amp :)

I would say more a manbag ;) . Does mig tig and arc . Super clever auto adjusts the setting to make my welding look good, still doesn't stick to anything though !!
